FOO FIGHERS DRUMMER RELEASING SECOND ALBUM FROM SIDE BAND
February 18, 2010
Foo Fighters drummer Taylor Hawkins will release the second album from his side band, Taylor Hawkins and the Coattail Riders, on April 20th. Titled Red Light Fever, the 12-song disc features Hawkins on vocals, drums and other instruments, along with guest appearances from Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl, Queen guitarist Brian May and drummer Roger Taylor, and Elliot Easton of the Cars.
Hawkins told us that the scope of the project is much bigger than the Coattail Riders' 2006 debut: "Last one we did on a real low key, did it at my friend's living room with like $3,000 worth of recording equipment. I mean, it was an indie record (laughs). But this one we recorded at our Foo Fighters studio, which is a big studio, so I kind of got to run crazy, run wild and put a lot of, you know, harmonies on everything and had some guest players on it and, you know, just had fun with that."
The Foo Fighters studio, called Studio 606, is located in Los Angeles.
Also appearing on Red Light Fever are Coattail Riders regular members Chris Chaney on bass, Gannin Arnold on guitar and touring guitarist Nate Wood.
Hawkins says the band plans to hit the road in support of the new disc.
Foo Fighters are currently on an extended break that began in late 2008. Dave Grohl's supergroup with John Paul Jones and Josh Homme, Them Crooked Vultures, released its debut album last fall and has been touring behind it.
